Jessie Chen (she/her) is a maker -
(creative technologist/textile artist/designer/illustrator/researcher)
currently based in Pittsburgh, PA.
I graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with an interdisciplinary major in Information Systems and Arts, and minors in Human-Computer Interaction, Game Design, and Animation and Special Effects.
My work is grounded in tenderness and play, exploring stories and connections between those close to us and strangers alike. I find inspiration in working with children, learning through storytelling, unconventional processes, and the small acts of care that shape our daily lives. Growing up with Chinese immigrant parents, I was shaped by their “can-do” attitude and the way care was expressed through food and shared meals, a practice that continues to inform how I approach my work and how I show up for the people around me.
Recently, I have embraced slower, grittier, hands-on processes, savoring every step of making and learning, and embracing the belief that I can DIY almost anything.
I am excited to continue exploring the intersections of craft and technology, finding third spaces — digital or physical — where we can learn from each other and enjoy tender connections.
