Born to Fuzhou immigrants, my parents built a life around food; it was both their livelihood and their way of expressing care. A bowl of comforting noodles, eaten on birthdays, becomes a gesture of love and a wish for a long, happy life.
At the end of every cooked meal, even when I am far away, I can still faintly hear my mother calling, 吃饭了, it’s time to eat.
